Onboard automated monitoring system for the overhead contact system (BSK KS.2)

The main tool for monitoring the condition of the overhead contact system on the long sections of electrified main railroad track is a specialized track-test car. However, during the diagnostic of an overhead contact system of small sections of main railroad tracks, side tracks and station tracks, as well as during the maintenance and operational acceptance of the overhead contact system after the repair, is economically feasible to equipped the motorailers by means of onboard automated monitoring system for the overhead contact system (BSK KS.2), used at the time of repair of an overhead contact system.

Such systems not only allow you to improve the quality and conditions of the repair work, but they are means that can serve as track­test car within the limits of one power department (unit) or on the railways with a small length of electrified tracks. The results, received from the BSK KS.2 are similar to the results issued by track­test cars for monitoring of the overhead contact system.

BSK KS.2 system can be installed on the various models of motorailers, equipped with pantograph. The control of geometrical parameters of the direct suspension is made by means of special measuring runner. In this case pick­up of information about the condition of the contact aerial is carried out without contact. The main advantages of this method of measurement are: the control of the contact aerial position at the time of it is real interaction with current collector and all­weather measurements (independence from solar illumination, interference from snow and rain, etc.).

The structure of the BSK KS.2:

  • measuring runner on current collector,
  • sensor of cable hanger height (of contact aerial),
  • power source of measuring runner,
  • optical communication channel,

  • a system of voice comments recording,
  • computer with monitor and control system,
  • real­time software (installed on computer),
  • post­processing software (installed on office computer),
  • equipment for the voltage control of the overhead contact system,
  • video observation system.

The computer with specialized software is collecting, processing and recording the information about the condition of an overhead contact system, obtained by means of measuring equipment during the journey in real time.

The post­processing software designed for processing of the recorded information about the condition of an overhead contact system, and for the creation of reports.

The real­time software

The real­time software operates in two modes: “in fact” or “on the passport.”

The “in fact” mode is used to state estimation of the overhead contact system in the absence of reliable nameplate data for the survey area of the overhead contact system and to the data collection for the formation of a passport (electronic normative journal). The mark state estimation of the overhead contact system in this mode is carried out based on the content standards of the overhead contact system in accordance with instruction (TsE­868).

The “on the passport” mode similar to the previous mode and differs only in that the mark state estimation of the overhead contact system is conducted on the basis of passport data (based on electronic normative journal).

Irrespective of the operating mode, the collection of information is used the trackage), which is in the database BAS KVL­E2.

The traffic route of the motorailer is formed by the based on the trackage. During the journey on the scheme shows the current coordinate of the motorailer. The image scale can vary by the operator.

Using of trackage allow one to “tie” all measured parameters to the absolute railway coordinate. This, in turn, eliminates errors in the preparation of reporting materials and simplifies the analysis as the results of different detours, and in the monitoring of track sections.

On the user’s screen illustrates the following working areas of interface:

1 – The toolbar for quick navigation.

2 – Equipment status bar for continuous monitoring of sensors – self­diagnosis (opened by the operator or pops in case of failure of any measuring device).

3 – Graphical diagram (this is a set of passport data fields, objects and measuring parameters of an overhead contact system).

4 – Mimic of measuring runner (it displays the serviceability of runner sensors, it is opened by the operator).

5 – Table to display the results of automatic evaluation – deviations of the parameters from the norms of the level of maintenance (passport).

6 – Area to output the service messages.

7 – Fragment of the route, showing the track section, where the control of parameters of the overhead contact system is making at this moment (the information can be displayed in text form at will of the operator).

In the end of journey the all collected information is copied in the external memory for further processing in stationary (office) environment.

The post­processing software

The post­processing software allows you to:

  • create a lineup of the motorailer,
  • create and update the passports of the route sections,
  • view the measuring results after the journeys,
  • prepare reports based on the journey results.

The data from an external storage medium recorded in the database of post­processing software that to process the received information.

If desired, the operator can open separately, in tabular form:

  • passport section in full or certain data (coordinates, supports, artificial constructions, slip switches, etc.);
  • all defects in full and­or in separate parameters (separately zigzag, suspension height, pick up, etc.);
  • view of the journey results possible for each individual parameter or service mark (coordinates, verbal comments, errors and so on – total twenty­four positions).

The post­processing software lets view all received information in the scrolling mode or in the imitation journey mode, as in direct, and in the opposite direction. Thus, all measuring information and video information are synchronized and “referenced” to the railroad track coordinate. During the forming of report by results of journey, BSK KS.2 allows to print the reports in the form of diagrams or pivot tables.

The creation of the list of variations (errors) and dangerous places (by section, power department (unit) is carried out automatically.
